We are pleased to offer free valuations most days from 9.30 am - 5 pm. Please call in advance to make an appointment, so we can ensure the correct valuer is available. We have ample free parking on-site.
For large collections, a valuer can visit your home to assess your items and guide you through the selling process. If you are unsure of the value of items destined for disposal it is always worth considering a visit by one of our valuers. We have rescued many items from skips and bins on behalf of the owners, some raising many thousands of pounds!
We are also able to provide valuations from emailed photographs. Please use the Valuation Request form on this page, providing clear images and using the 'message' field to provide any additional information you have - such as dimensions or provenance. We aim to respond within three working days. Alternatively, you can email auctions@andrewsmithandson.com but please do not send more than two images per email (you can send as many emails as you need) as large files are blocked by our email server. However you choose to send us your images, please make sure you include relevant information to help us make as accurate an assessment as possible - for example any marks on the underside of china, signatures on pictures, hallmarks on silver, dimensions of rugs and furniture, how many items there are as well as any information you may have on the provenance of your items.
In addition to our usual daily valuations by appointment at the Itchen Stoke saleroom, we also hold monthly valuation days both here at Itchen Stoke and at our Winchester city centre premises at 6b St Thomas Street, Winchester, SO23 9HE – no appointment necessary on valuation days.
We hold valuation days at various towns and cities in the South, and more details of these can be found in local press and on our Home Page.
Our valuers are often praised for their thoroughness and will check through all the items and consign them to either a Saturday Homes & Antiques Auction or a Fine Art, Antique & Decorative Interiors Auction, whichever is appropriate, although there will always be some items which are unsuitable for sale. After clearing the house of items suitable for auction, we can put you in contact with the House Clearance Specialists we recommend.
Formal Valuations
We have an experienced team of valuers who undertake valuations for the purposes of inheritance tax (previously known as Probate), insurance and family division.
The fee for formal written valuations is worked out as time spent with a minimum charge for such work at £200 +VAT.
