A Chinese export 'Thousand Faces' fan, mid to late 19th century, Qing dynasty, both sides decorated with a finely painted paper leaf featuring numerous ivory faced figures wearing applied silk robes on pavilion terraces or in landscape settings within floral borders interspersed with various auspicious emblems,  the black lacquered sticks and guards painted with gilt figures in garden landscapes (guards 28 cm ) c/w ebonized and glazed semi-circular display case, 58 cm w x 32 cm h o/a

taped repairs to paper leaf, colours brighter on one side, some of the applied silk robes are lifting/frayed, paper leaf also with several small splits, tears and wear/losses, guards and sticks with handling wear commensurate with age
