A 19th century Chinese famille rose cylindrical jar and cover or caddy, painted in polychrome enamels with scholars and attendants in garden landscape settings within large lobed panels reserved against the rich blue ground decorated with scattered roundels and fruiting peach and pomegranate sprays, the flat cover with conforming design, Qing dynasty, 18 cm high x 16 cm diameter, previous ownership label stuck to base to/w a Canton enamel green ground floral bowl (2)
The jar has a filled 3 cm (approx.) hairline extending vertically down the body from the rim, and a large 'star' hairline visible from the inside, white glazed interior and un-glazed rim, the cover with several small internal rim chips, overall wear to enamels and gilding on both
